The Associated Press reported last week that Hutchison Whampoa Ltd was given a no-bid contract by the US government to take over radiation detecting security just 65 miles away from Freeport in the Bahamas with no oversight. Hutchinson Whampoa is admittedly a holding of the Chinese navy and the People's Liberation Army.
The US government has handed a no-bid contract directly to the Chinese military machine to handle key security infrastructure right as that country gears up for a future confrontation with America.
According to a 1999 investigative report by the American Foreign Policy Council,Hutchison Whampoa, through its Hutchison International Terminals [HIT] subsidiary or Panama Ports Company, has substantial links to the Chinese communist government and the Peoples Liberation Army.

The Panama Ports Company is 10% owned by China Resources Enterprise, which is the commercial arm of China's Ministry of Trade and Economic Co-operation.In its investigation into China's attempts to influence the 1996 US presidential campaign, US Senate Government Affairs Committee identified CRE as a conduit for ‘espionage economic, political and military-for China. Committee Chairman Senator Fred Thompson said that CRE has geopolitical purposes.Kind of like a smiling tiger; it looks friendly, but its very dangerous. Sen Trent Lott has described the Hong Kong firm as an arm of the People's Liberation Army. The company is headed by Li Ka-Shing (pictured below),the chairman of Hutchison Whampoa Ltd.
Intelligence shows he has deep connections
with the Chinese Communist government.

WASHINGTON (AP) - One of Americans' favorite beach destinations, the Bahamas, is getting a new U.S. arrival - sophisticated equipment to detect radioactive materials in shipping cargo. But U.S. customs agents won't be on site to supervise the machine's use as a nuclear safeguard for the American shoreline that is just 65 miles away from Freeport. Under an unusual arrangement, a Hong Kong company will help operate the detector.

Chinese Company Continues to Encircle the World

A huge, multibillion-dollar company closely tied to the Chinese army has set up operations in ports all around the world.
From Panama to the Philippines, an arm of Hutchison-Whampoa, Hutchison Port Holding (HPH), has become the world’s largest seaport operator, embedding itself in strategic seaports all across the globe.
Hutchison holds the exclusive contract to operate the Panama Canal.
An animated map on the Hutchison-Whampoa Web site shows the extent of the encircling movement with seaport operations in Africa (Tanzania International Terminal Services Ltd.) in the Western Hemisphere with seaport services in Beunos Aires, Argentina; Freeport, the Bahamas; Veracruz, Mexico; and at both ends of the Panama Canal.

A Chinese Naval Base -- at Long Beach
by Patrick J. Buchanan
March 13, 1997
Until this week, the heart of the historic U.S. Naval Base at Long Beach was about to be leased to a shipping company, Cosco, that is a virtual subsidiary of the Chinese Communist Army.
In 1995, a Cosco ship, the Empress Phoenix, was boarded by Customs agents, who seized a cargo of 2,000 AK-47 assault rifles -- destined for Los Angeles street gangs.
And who was chief lobbyist for handing over the historic naval base to China? None other than the president of the United States. Clinton held two meetings, one in the White House with Chief of Staff Leon Panetta and a deputy secretary of defense, to press Long Beach to make the deal.

Chinese general warns of nuclear risk to US
Jonathan Watts in Beijing

The Guardian
A senior Chinese general has warned that his country could destroy hundreds of American cities with nuclear weapons if the two nations clashed over Taiwan.
Major general Zhu Chenghu, a dean at the National Defence University, said he was expressing a private opinion, but his comments, the most inflammatory by a senior government official in 10 years, will fuel growing concerns in Washington about the rise of China.
Speaking at a lecture arranged by the foreign ministry and attended by several foreign correspondents on Thursday, Mr Zhu said China was prepared to initiate non-conventional warfare over Taiwan. "War logic dictates that a weaker power needs to use maximum efforts to defeat a stronger rival," he was reported as saying by the New York Times.
"If the Americans draw their missiles and position-guided ammunition on to the target zone on China's territory, I think we will have to respond with nuclear weapons."
