Call to add fluoride to bottle water

BOTTLED water may soon contain added fluoride amid rising concerns about childhood tooth decay.

Consumer, health and industry groups were united yesterday in calls for the national food regulator, Food Standards Australia New Zealand, to overturn its ban on added fluoride. Only naturally occurring fluoride is allowed in bottled water.

Two months ago Prime Minister John Howard described the increase in tooth decay as a national tragedy and called for parents to give children at least one glass of fluoridated tap water a day.

Consumer watchdog Choice said allowing manufacturers to add fluoride to some bottled water would help arrest the dramatic increase in children's tooth decay.

A survey by the Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health last year showed the rate of permanent tooth decay among 14 and 15-year-olds had increased by more than 70 per cent in the six years to 2002. And about 20 per cent of children aged five and under get at least one filling when they visit the dentist.

"It's the young people from this recent bottled-water generation who are exhibiting the problems with their teeth," Choice spokeswoman Indira Naidoo said. "We want people to have the option of fluoride in their bottled water and we want the manufacturers to clearly label which ones have fluoride and which ones don't," she said.

Australian Dental Association chief executive Robert Boyd-Boland said: "It has been a concern to us that there has been an increased consumption of bottled water that doesn't contain fluoride and that this could be, in part, a factor in the increased decay rates that are being evidenced in children."

Australian Beverages Council chief executive Tony Gentile, in Canberra yesterday to lobby the Government to overturn the ban on added fluoride in bottled water, said bottled water was not linked to the increase in children's tooth decay.

"We believe that the industry is unfairly accused of being a contributor to the rising levels of dental decay … It's due to a multiplicity of other factors including poor dental hygiene and the lack of fluoride in some tap water," he said.

Instead, the bottled-water sector wanted the ban overturned to open another product line.

Australians buy more than 700 million litres of bottled water annually. In the US, where added fluoride is approved, fortified water makes up about 10 per cent of the market.

The Australian Beverages Council has applied to Food Standards Australia New Zealand for permission to add fluoride to bottled water, but this could take up to 12 months. Its application will not be looked into until September.

Regulator spokeswoman Lydia Buchtmann said all applications to fortify food and beverages with vitamins and minerals required rigorous safety assessment and rounds of public comment before approval.

Freedom from Fluoridation Federation of Australia chairman Glen Walker said there was no scientific proof fluoride worked or was safe. "Fluoride is one of the great health scams and money rorts of the century. Compulsory fluoridation has turned out a complete failure because dental decay around Australia is epidemic," he said.

Ahmadinejad, our secret agent in Iran
Iranian president's actions undermine his own country, help Israel

Could it be that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is working for us? He is after all doing an excellent job for Israel. This week, while Teheran is divided between pragmatic elements calling to suspend Iran's nuclear program (or at least enter dialog with the US,) and militant elements who are not prepared to make any concessions – militant Ahmadinejad should definitely be supported.

It would be bad news for Israel if the Iranian nuclear program was halted now because international pressure would wane, a new American president would come to power and the smart Iranians would renew the project later on. Fortunately we have Ahmadinejad who insists that his country be isolated and trumpeted as the world's problem child.

Following is a list of Ahmadinejad achievements in less than two years:

* Thanks to his defamatory words, he brought the Iranian nuclear issue to the top of the international agenda. If it hadn't been for him, who would have become involved in such a worrisome matter? It should be noted that Ahmadinejad's two predecessors, Presidents Rafsanjani and Khatami, developed nuclear capability but this didn't come to the world's attention. US, Britain and Russia must now ensure that Iran does not achieve nuclear arms.
* Ahmadinejad has pitted the US against Iran, while virtually pushing it to take military action against his country. While another aircraft carrier is already stationed along the Iranian coast and the US military is being reinforced in Iraq, a military attack on Iran is no longer a far-fetched scenario.
* The Iranian president has lost European support to such an extent that countries such as Germany, France and Britain are insisting on expanding sanctions on Iran. It is hard to comprehend but the British and the French are more at odds with Iran than with the US.
* He united the whole world behind Israel due to his foolish denial of the Holocaust. He actually emboldened international support for Israel in wake of his desire to annihilate it. Thus he has managed to make Israel the world's underdog once again after many years. Once again we are David and not Goliath.
* By his own doing, Ahmadinejad is building the great Sunni camp against the Shiites and Iran. He has created such immense fears and hostilities in countries such as Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States and even among some Palestinians, that this fear is now uniting them against Iran. This Sunni alliance has the potential to cooperate with Israel in the future.
* Due to Iran's Shiite enthusiasm, the rift between Iran and Syria - its only ally - is also growing. The Syrians feel very uncomfortable with the Shiite ambition for hegemony, which could ultimately come at their expense.
* The unofficial international economic embargo against Iran is expanding, and is likely to soon become official if the Security Council makes such a decision. This would result in further damage to the already unstable Iranian economy, which is entirely dependent on its oil.
* Ahmadinejad is also increasingly losing Russian support. What transpired is not quite clear, but the Russians are currently delaying the shipment of nuclear materials to the plant they themselves helped build in Busher.
* Internally Ahmadinejad has also achieved quite a lot by inciting entire sectors within Iran against him and the Ayatollah regime, while insisting on imposing a radical and conservative line on the entire country without understanding the direction of history, which is distancing itself from the conservative line.

Could Ahmadinejad actually endanger the existence of the Ayatollah regime? – If he succeeds, then agent Ahmadinejad would have done a great job!

How Israel Targets Arab and Muslim Scientists

Iran tops the American list of rogue states. Its decision to harness nuclear energy has made the US attitude to Tehran even more bellicose. If the US had its way, it would have, undoubtedly, struck Iranian nuclear facilities and reduced them to rubble.

But the US is aware of the calamitous ramifications of an Iranian adventure upsetting not only the region but sending its tsunami-like ripples to the regions beyond. So it would be rather safe to forecast that the US will not attack Iran in the immediate future.

Israel, apparently disappointed by the US hesitation to launch a pre-emptive strike against Iran, is showing signs of returning to its policy of assassination to weaken or eliminate its enemies. Israeli intelligence apparatus Mossad reportedly assassinated Ardashir Hassan Baur, one of Iran’s top nuclear scientists, last month. Ardashir, who was instrumental in founding the Nuclear Research Center in Esfahan, was the director of the Center for Nuclear Electromagnetic Studies, the hub of Iranian nuclear activities.

The Sunday Times newspaper said Mossad was the most-likely force behind the assassination. Riza Pahala of the Stratfor, an American private establishment working in the area of espionage, said the Iranian scientist figured high in the Mossad hit list, as he possessed vital information about Iranian nuclear activities besides being the pivot of its nuclear facilities.

Israel has assassinated not only Arab leaders and scientists but Jewish citizens of Egypt and other parts of the Arab world as well. The purpose of killing the Arab Jews was to create a sense of insecurity among the Jewish communities living peacefully in Egypt and elsewhere so that they will immigrate to the Zionist state. Again it was Jewish terrorists, members of the Stern group to be specific, who committed numerous atrocities over a period of time against the British and Arabs, including the assassination of Count Bernadotte, the UN mediator between the Arabs and Jews in September 1948. Eminent Arab and Palestinian personalities such as founding chairman of the Palestine Authority Yasser Arafat and Hamas leader Ahmad Yassin were victims of Israel’s policy of eliminating their enemies or those who they considered to be enemies.

A major function of the Israeli intelligence is obviously to follow the activities of the Arab nuclear scientists and assassinate them with the express goal of depriving the Arab countries of capable scientists. For instance, Egyptian nuclear scientist Dr. Samirah Musa was killed in a road accident in the United States in 1952 caused by an unidentified driver. Israel did not like her because she used to voice deep concerns about the hazards of the increasing Israeli nuclear activities in the Middle East.

She also had, reportedly, invented a simpler method to develop the critical grade nuclear material from metals cheaper than uranium. Again, in 1967 another Egyptian nuclear physicist Dr. Sameer Najib was assassinated in Detroit after he conducted some successful experiments in the military application of nuclear science. Another suspected assassination by the Mossad agents is the mysterious death, in Paris in June 1980, of Dr. Yahya Amin Al-Mushed, chief of the Iraqi nuclear project. He was in France for detailed discussions regarding the French cooperation in the Iraqi nuclear reactor.

In July 1989, some unknown assailants shot Egyptian scientist Saeed Al-Bodair dead at his Alexandria apartment. He had developed some pioneering theories in the field of microwave. These are part of the Zionist scheme to keep the nuclear facilities away from the reach of Arabs and Muslims.

I wonder what would have happened if an Israeli scientist were assassinated by an Arab intelligence agency. All the Arab governments would, no doubt, be described as terrorists and sponsors of terror. The Western governments would, in the most brazen manner, display their hidden racist tendencies to hunt down every Arab. No amount of racist justification can conceal the state-sponsored terrorism practiced by Israel with the tacit approval of the United States.

ARMED FORCES REVEAL UFO PRESENCE IN CHILE

More than 1,000 enthusiasts and experts gathered in Viña del Mar on Tuesday and Wednesday this week for the Tenth International Ufology Conference, organized by the Chile’s Ufology Investigation Group (Aion). The highlight of the meeting was a display of photographs taken by members of Chile’s Armed Forces.

Ufology is the study of unidentified flying objects, or UFOs. While many ufology experts feel that the field is not taken seriously by scientists, participants at the conference in Viña del Mar said the presence of several members of the armed forces added legitimacy to the proceedings. Rodrigo Fuenzalida, director of Aion, said the military presence was important because of the well-known objectivity of their reports and the advanced technology that can be used to back up their observations.

The military photographs and videos were revealed late Tuesday evening. They included a photograph of a spherical metallic object captured flying over Antarctica and a video of Navy ships being pursued by a luminous object in 2000.

Also presented at the conference was a report by Rodrigo Bravo, Captain of the Army’s Fifth Division, who talked to a rapt audience about his thesis, entitled “Observations of unidentified aerial phenomena identified by the Civil Air Force.” While Bravo’s talk was not technically representative of the institution’s position on UFOs, he had been authorized to give it by his commander-in-chief.

“Captain Bravo gave his talk from the point of view of the importance of UFOs as a phenomenon,” said Fuenzalida. “He talked about encounters such as that of three helicopters near La Unión, when a UFO was spotted parked on the ground, and what happened in 2000, when five people were pursued by a luminous object that did not show up on radar screens.”

Fuenzalida denied the existence of “secret investigations” being carried out by the Armed Forces about extraterrestrial activity.

Also present at the conference was retired official Armando Valdés, who is noted for his involvement in one of Chile’s first documented UFO abductions, which became known as the Valdés Case. On April 25, 1977, Valdés, along with five members of an army patrol, saw two bright objects descending from the sky. Valdés set out alone to investigate and, according to the men, simply vanished. Fifteen minutes later, they said, he reappeared, tried to speak and passed out. The date on his watch had been advanced five days, and he had about a week's growth of beard.

According to his comrades, when Valdes was beginning to regain consciousness he said: "You do not know who we are, nor where we come from. But I tell you that we will soon return."
