President calls for Muslim-Christian cooperation
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday evening underscored the need for cooperation among followers of the divine religions, including Muslims and Christians, to settle problems facing the world people.
In a meeting with Vatican Ambassador to Iran Jean Paul Gobel, he added that the Muslims and Christians can play a key role in establishment of peace, stability and brotherhood in the world and can prevent aggressive policies of the bullying and corrupted powers.
The Iranian president then referred to war, discrimination, and poverty as the main problems of the human communities in the modern world and called for administration of justice throughout the globe.
Ahmadinejad called on Pope Benedict to take decisive stand vis-a-vis crimes being committed by the big powers, stressing that Muslims, Christians, and all world monotheists would support the Pope's rightful stand.
For his part, the new Vatican ambassador to Tehran, called for further cooperation between Iran and The Holy See.
He also underlined the importance of dialogue among various divine religions.
Referring to recent sacrilege of Islamic sanctities, he stressed that freedom of speech does not allow to insult beliefs and sanctities of others.
